Drug and alcohol addiction and recovery in the age of coronavirus

Drug users are being encouraged to stock up on needles and Narcan and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are getting canceled — this is the world of addiction in the coronavirus pandemic.

About 60% of the AA meetings in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair and Sanilac counties have been canceled, said Bob S., secretary general for AA of Greater Detroit. Typically, there are about 1,500 in those counties every week.

And it’s likely more cancellations will be coming, as President Donald Trump urged people late Monday afternoon not to gather in groups of 10 or more.
