You are not alone

Help with Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment

One in ten Americans struggle with substance abuse and prescription drug use. Today, more than twice as many people misuse prescription drugs as use cocaine, heroin, and meth combined. [1] And that increase in prescription drug abuse has brought with it an increase in life-threatening and life-altering interactions and incidents.

You can’t turn on the news without being reminded how <a href-LINK TO OPIOID PAGE>prescription opioid misuse</a> has become “an everyday tragedy” nationwide. But it isn’t just opioids. Between 2006 and 2011, misuse of Adderall rose 67%—and ER visits associated with Adderall went up 156%. Likewise, between 1996 and 2013, prescriptions for benzodiazepines (like Xanax and Valium) went up 67%—but the actual number of pills dispensed went up more than 200%, and the overdose death rate attributed to these pills shot up by more than 300%. [2]

It’s easy to believe prescription drug misuse couldn’t affect you or someone you love. But a legitimately prescribed pill can quickly slip into an unmanageable burden. Maybe you’re worried that this is happening to you, or perhaps you’ve seen someone you love turn from prescription opioids to heroin. Whatever your situation, CARE understands—and we can help.

Recovery can be your new beginning today.

What Are My Treatment Options?

You’re not alone in this.  We’ve been where you are—sleeping in jail, borrowing money, missing family events, lying to people who care about you. We were sure we had it all under control.  We were “too busy” to make a change or felt we’d already “tried everything” and failed.  We lost hope.

Every person’s struggle with prescription medications is unique—that’s why CARE’s prescription drug treatment program is tailored to your needs.  At CARE we believe there are multiple paths to recovery.  This could include 12-step programs, a stay at a treatment center, medication-assisted treatment, mental health services, a spiritual support or faith-based program—or something completely different.  Whatever your path, rehabilitation is more likely when you have the right support.

Our Recovery United team will match you with your own Peer Recovery Coach, and connect you with a whole community of people in recovery. Together, you and your coach construct an individual path to recovery. This includes:

  • Meeting as often as you need, in a place that works for you, on the schedule that your recovery demands
  • Identifying triggers, risks of relapse, and vital self-care needs
  • Making short- and long-term goals
  • Connecting you with the resources you need to live your life
  • Building your community support network—a group of people who understand you
  • Developing the self-sufficiency and self-honesty you need to make a lasting change

Every peer recovery coach has at least three years in recovery, and extensive training on addiction treatment and the resources available to you.  More importantly, they’re absolutely committed to the individual path to recovery you’ve chosen. Your coach nonjudgmentally provides the encouragement and support you need. They are here to bridge the gaps and help keep you accountable to yourself and your plan.

"CARE helped me to find a huge part of who I am. I love everything that I do with them, and I can’t wait to have a career where I get to do that sort of thing every day. That is the reason that I want to be a social worker."

[1] According to the National Institutes of Health, an estimated 18 million people misused prescription drugs in 2017. According to SAMHSA, in that same year a combined total of roughly 9 million Americans used cocaine, heroin, or methamphetamine. (See Table 1.1A)
