This class meets the requirements of court ordered participation and/or child welfare system mandates (CPS requirements).
The Nurturing Parenting Program is an evidence-based, trauma-informed initiative designed to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect by building positive parenting skills. Nurturing Parenting is an innovative model designed to meet the needs of families with children ranging in age from prenatal to 19 years old.
Six protective factors are integrated into the lessons of the Nurturing Parenting Program.
The six factors include:
1. Nurturing and Attachment
2. Knowledge of Parenting and Youth Development
3. Parental Resilience
4. Social Connections
5. Concrete Supports for Parents
6. Social and Emotional Competence of Children
Eligibility:
- For families with children ranging in age from prenatal to 19 years old and who are involved with the child-welfare system, including: having lost custody or parental rights; are court mandated; are being referred by child protective services (CPS), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), other a private adoption agency; or have custody of their child(ren) less than 50% of the time.
- New registrants need to be in attendance by second night of class to maintain class enrollment
- Attending 19.5 hours out of 22.5 classroom hours are required to receive a certificate of completion.
