WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Coalition development is far from a new practice yet so many communities struggle with understanding, developing, and successfully sustaining these groups. This session will provide a comprehensive review of the: who’s, what’s, where’s, when’s, why’s and most importantly how’s of community coalitions. Through the application of the strategic prevention framework, attendees will be prepared to pull together their “village” to successfully grow and develop substance abuse prevention initiatives.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:
- Participants will be able to define what a coalition is and understand its overall purpose
- Participants will be able to identify how coalitions look to reduce the impact of substance use in a community
- Participants will be able to understand how the strategic prevention framework is applied when working with community coalitions
